We apologize for the large gap between blog posts. We were
without internet for about a week so we are taking the time now to catch you up
to speed!
We finished the tracking and dung analysis early so we walked
miles through the open desert to the edge of Lake Manyara where we saw over 1
million flamingos. It was brilliant seeing them all take flight simultaneously.
Also, Happy Belated Valentines Day! This week we had a
presentation from an Iraqw woman on the role of women in African society, which
was very eye opening. We then went back to Lake Manyara to do a vegetation
analysis, which landed some of us within a few yards of a wildebeest and some Thomsom’s
gazelle.
Since then we have pretty much been stuck at camp writing papers,
which is why the upcoming week is going to be so amazing!!
Tomorrow we head out on our first expedition in Tarangire
National Park for 4 days/nights to do some animal counts. After that we head to
Arusha National Park for 2 days/nights before heading back to camp! We are told
we’ll likely see lions, hyenas, and maybe leopards if we’re lucky! Finally some
carnivores!! We wont have computer access for the week so we’ll update you on
how expedition went when we return!
